Nel maggio 1961 Piero Manzoni (1933-1963) realizzava novanta scatolette di Merda d’artista, Künstlerscheisse, Merde d’artiste, Artist’s Shit. Per i sessant’anni dell’opera più nota ma forse meno conosciuta dell’artista, la Fondazione Piero Manzoni ha organizzato diverse iniziative, che andranno da maggio 2021 a maggio 2022, per celebrare e raccontare storia, leggenda e significati della terribile scatoletta. Da maggio 2021 è on line questo nuovo sito merdadartista.org, che si arricchirà nel corso dei mesi di nuovi contenuti, creati ad hoc, tra cui la serie “30, 20, 10 minuti di Merda”, incontri sul web con i protagonisti dell’arte contemporanea per approfondire temi legati alla Merda d’artista. La Taplab wall covering con il progetto “8PER / Omaggio a Merda d’artista di Piero Manzoni” ha prodotto otto nuove carte da parati che verranno presentate dal 13 al 30 maggio alla Casa degli Artisti di Milano. È in arrivo un agile libro pubblicato dalla Carlo Cambi Editore, in quattro lingue, come l’etichetta della Merda d’artista, che ci accompagnerà attraverso i saggi di quattro autori (Luca Bochicchio, Flaminio Gualdoni, Rosalia Pasqualino di Marineo e Marco Senaldi) in un viaggio alla scoperta della famigerata scatoletta. La prestigiosa rivista di Hauser & Wirth, Ursula, sta preparando un numero dedicato alla Merda d’artista, con interviste, testi e altro, in omaggio a questa straordinaria opera. Il regista Andrea Bettinetti (già autore del film Piero Manzoni, artista nel 2013) sta preparando dei brevi documentari per approfondire temi specifici, tra cui ad esempio lo scandalo del 1971, quando la Merda d’artista venne esposta alla Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma e ne conseguì una interrogazione parlamentare. È in lavorazione anche uno spettacolo per il teatro, con tre brevi dialoghi, scritti e diretti da Filippo Soldi.

In May 1961, Piero Manzoni (1933-1963) created 90 cans of Merda d’artista, Künstlerscheisse, Merde d’Artiste, Artist’s Shit. On the 60th anniversary of the most famous but perhaps least well known work by the artist, the Fondazione Piero Manzoni has organized diverse initiatives to be held between May 2021 and May 2022, celebrating and recounting the story, the legend and the meanings of that remarkable can. The new site merdadartista.org will be online from May 2021 and will be enriched over the following months by new ad hoc contents, including the series “30, 20, 10 minutes of Shit”, webinars with leading figures from the world of contemporary art discussing issues associated with Artist’s Shit. With the project “8PER / Tribute to Piero Manzoni’s Artist’s Shit”, Taplab wall covering has produced eight new wallpapers that will be presented from 13 to 30 May at the Casa degli Artisti in Milan. Carlo Cambi Editore is about to publish a fascinating book in four languages, like the Artist’s Shit label, that will accompany us as we explore the notorious can through essays by four authors (Luca Bochicchio, Flaminio Gualdoni, Rosalia Pasqualino di Marineo and Marco Senaldi). The prestigious periodical Ursula, published by Hauser & Wirth, is preparing an issue dedicated to Artist’s Shit, with interviews, articles and more besides, in a tribute to this extraordinary work. The director Andrea Bettinetti (Piero Manzoni, artista, 2013) is preparing brief documentaries exploring specific themes including, for example, the 1971 scandal that arose when Artist’s Shit was exhibited at the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and provoked a parliamentary question. Work is also in progress on a theatrical piece, with three brief dialogues written and directed by Filippo Soldi.
